Alex Nason retired in 2018 after a successful career as an engineer and a business owner. He was born in Moldova, one of the former Soviet Union states, where he grew up persecuted for being Jewish. At the age of 26, he, his wife and three year old son left the Soviet Union seeking a better life. 

On January 21, 1981 they arrived in the Unisted States. With major challenges ahead, his journey towards the American dream started on that date. There were no relatives, no friends he could rely on. 

His English knoledge was limited to less than a few hundred words, and so was the amount of his money. Life behind the Iron Curtain left him unprepared for the United States. It was literally back to the drawing board, starting from scratch, including the culture shock he faced in Houston, TX.
